Arts Inside + Poetic Justice
This October, Arts Inside is partnering with Poetic Justice to offer facilitator training for two of their restorative writing programs. Poetic Justice’s mission is to offer opportunities for healing and growth by holding space to process trauma and rewrite personal narratives to transform the story of incarceration.
The Poetic Justice In-Person Program training prepares facilitators to lead classes in detention facilities with the Poetic Justice curriculum, which is composed of therapeutic writing prompts and community building activities. There is no experience in writing or teaching to participate in this training.
Training for the In-Person Program will be at the South Cumberland Learning and Development Center on October 28th and 29th.
The Poetic Justice Distance Learning Program partners a participant who is incarcerated in a local jail with an outside volunteer. Through letter writing correspondence, the two writers will share writing prompts as well as personal stories, more comparable to a pen-pal program than traditional classes.
Training for the Distance Learning Program will be in-person at the South Cumberland Learning and Development Center on October 30th.
